Rein Ahas, is a Professor of Human Geography at the University of Tartu, Estonia. He is elected to the position of a research-professor of the Estonian Academy of Sciences since 2013 and is a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Location Based Services (Taylor & Francis) and Travel Behavior and Society (Elsevier).

Research interests include the study of spatial mobility, ICT, tourism and seasonality. He has been actively involved in the developing of mobile positioning and ICT based research methodology and published over 50 research papers. Prof. Ahas is a member of Eurostat Task Force a Task Force on “Big Data and Official Statistics” and EC EIP Smart Cities & Communities sherpa group member.
